Kashf Foundation and Uber Pakistan Join Hands to Train Driver Partners on Social Norms

Kashf Foundation and Uber Pakistan, the global smartphone app that seamlessly connects riders to drivers teamed up in a bid to educate drivers on how to refrain from inappropriate behavior and recognize and prevent unsuitable actions at work. Titled ‘Dignity at Work’, this training is a part of Uber’s global initiative to help prevent harassment of any kind.

Safee Shah, GM Pakistan said: “Our partnership with Kashf Foundation is an integral part of our global initiative to focus on preventing harassment. We believe education is key in raising awareness and the training that comes with it. We want to keep working on making Uber safer for drivers and riders.”

The purpose of the training is to educate Uber drivers on maintaining dignity at work and in-depth knowledge on prevention of harassment, while also encouraging a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of harassment. It will also develop understanding about the legal policies and punishments for harassment in Pakistan.

Roshaneh Zafar, Managing Director Kashf Foundation stated: “We strongly believe in a gender sensitive and enabling work environment and have made it an integral part of our institution’s core values. Looking at the alarming numbers of harassment issues women and young girls face in our country every day, we feel it is imperative upon us to help other organizations in maintaining dignity at their workplace as well. This is just the beginning and we hope our relationship with Uber fosters and we can make culminate this into a long-term partnership.”

On a global level, Uber is taking huge strides in fighting the menace of sexual abuse and domestic violence, by making company-wide changes. First, the company will no longer require mandatory arbitration for individual claims of sexual assault or sexual harassment by Uber riders, drivers or employees.

Kashf Foundation is committed to empowering women across Pakistan and works on multiple projects to eliminate forms of social evils especially sexual harassment women face on a daily basis. The Foundation has strict policies and rules regarding harassment at the workplace and maintained a 50% gender balance across its entire network.
