ASA Lifecare Insures 250,000 Customers in Pakistan Through Microfinance Partnership

ASA Lifecare has reached a milestone of providing insurance coverage to 250,000 customers in Pakistan, marking a significant development in the expansion of financial protection alongside microfinance services. The milestone was highlighted during a recent event in Lahore, where the success of the ASA Lifecare initiative was celebrated by its partners, including ASA Microfinance Bank (Pakistan) Limited, Jubilee Life Insurance Company Limited, Jubilee General Insurance Company Limited, and Turaco.

The partnership behind ASA Lifecare began in June and has since enabled 250,000 customers to receive financial protection through insurance coverage embedded into their loans. The initiative is designed to extend insurance access to customers who are already using microfinance services, connecting financing with protection for borrowers and their families.

Through ASA Lifecare, customers receive access to several types of insurance coverage, including Hospital Cash, Funeral, Credit Life, and Micro Property coverage. These protections are incorporated into the loan journey, allowing customers to receive insurance benefits alongside their financing rather than requiring a separate process to obtain coverage.

The Hospital Cash component provides coverage related to hospitalization, while Funeral coverage is designed to provide financial support in the event of a covered death. Credit Life coverage is linked to the customer’s financing, while Micro Property coverage provides protection related to eligible property risks. Together, these products are intended to address different financial risks that customers and their families may face during the period of their loans.

The initiative brings together organizations from the microfinance and insurance sectors. ASA Microfinance Bank provides the lending platform through which customers access financial services, while Jubilee Life Insurance Company and Jubilee General Insurance Company contribute insurance coverage. Turaco is also a partner in the initiative and has emphasized the importance of making insurance accessible through a simple and integrated customer experience.

The milestone reflects a broader approach to financial inclusion in which access to credit is combined with measures designed to protect borrowers against financial shocks. Microfinance customers often use financing to support businesses, household needs, and income-generating activities. Insurance coverage attached to these loans can provide an additional layer of financial protection when customers face events covered under their policies.

Turaco has stated that insurance should extend beyond the provision of a policy and should provide support when customers need to make a claim. The company has highlighted a focus on creating a simple, seamless, and fast claims experience as part of its approach to insurance delivery.

The involvement of field teams has also been highlighted as an important part of the initiative. These teams support the delivery of financial services to customers and play a role in making the insurance offering available through the microfinance network. The partners have acknowledged the contribution of the teams working on the ground to reach customers across the initiative.

The 250,000-customer milestone also illustrates the potential for partnerships between microfinance institutions, insurers, and technology-enabled insurance companies to expand access to financial protection. By embedding insurance into existing lending arrangements, such partnerships can connect customers with multiple financial services through a more integrated model.

ASA Lifecare is positioned as an initiative that seeks to broaden the meaning of financial inclusion beyond access to credit. Through Hospital Cash, Funeral, Credit Life, and Micro Property coverage, the program aims to provide protection for customers, their families, and the livelihoods supported by their loans.

With the partnership having reached 250,000 insured customers since its launch in June, ASA Lifecare represents an ongoing effort to combine microfinance with insurance protection in Pakistan. The participating organizations are continuing the initiative with a focus on expanding financial protection and supporting customers through insurance coverage integrated into their financing journey.
