JazzCash has highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in its digital financial services strategy as the company expands beyond payments into lending, insurance, investments and government disbursements. The development was discussed by Ahmet Kayhan, VEON’s Chief Payments and Digital Assets Officer, during the GSMA Connected Fintech and Commerce Forum, where JazzCash was presented as a case study of how mobile-led financial services can scale across emerging markets. The GSMA’s October 1 forum specifically featured “The JazzCash Story: How Digital Financial Services Are Enabling VEON’s Digital Operator Strategy,” focusing on the company’s growth in payments, digital lending, savings, insurance and investments. The forum also examined how digital financial services can contribute to financial inclusion and the wider digital economy.
According to JazzCash, its use of AI is aimed at developing a deeper understanding of customer needs and providing financial services that can be relevant across different parts of consumers’ daily lives. Rather than limiting its role to transactions, the company is expanding its digital offering across multiple financial products, including credit, insurance, investment-related services and government disbursements. This approach forms part of VEON’s broader AI 1440 strategy, under which AI is being positioned as a technology for improving customer engagement and developing digital products. JazzCash’s expansion also reflects the wider direction of the GSMA’s Connected Fintech and Commerce community, which identifies AI and machine learning as technologies that can support payments, commerce, risk assessment and other financial services.
JazzCash said it currently serves more than 1.7 million merchants and issues over 224,000 digital loans each day, reflecting the scale of its financial services operations. The company has also continued expanding its merchant and digital payment infrastructure in Pakistan. In March 2026, VEON announced that JazzCash had onboarded its one-millionth Raast QR-enabled merchant, while reporting that the platform had a registered customer base of 58 million and processed more than PKR 15 trillion in transaction value during 2025. The company’s merchant lending services also use transaction history and internal risk assessment to determine eligibility for business financing, while its digital platform provides merchants with access to additional services such as insurance and ticket sales.
The GSMA forum discussion places JazzCash’s development within a broader shift toward digital financial platforms that combine payments with additional financial services. The forum highlighted how VEON’s digital financial services strategy is contributing to the company’s wider digital portfolio, while JazzCash provides a Pakistan-focused example of expanding access to payments, lending, savings, insurance and investments. The GSMA has also identified financial inclusion, mobile payments, digital commerce, fraud prevention and data-driven risk assessment as key areas for the fintech sector. For JazzCash, the continued integration of AI with its existing digital financial infrastructure could allow the company to develop more personalised services while expanding the range of products available through its platform.
