SECP Charts Digital Future for Pakistan’s Insurance

SECP has unveiled a comprehensive blueprint to propel Pakistan’s insurance industry into the digital age. The regulatory body’s recent survey highlighted a significant gap in digital infrastructure within the sector, prompting a call to action.

A detailed analysis of the insurance landscape revealed that while some companies have initiated digital transformation efforts, primarily focused on distribution channels, the overall adoption of digital technologies remains nascent. Recognizing the potential of digitalization to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in the insurance sector, the SECP has developed a strategic roadmap titled “Insured Pakistan through Digitalization: Gaps, Potential & Roadmap”.

Key components of the roadmap include the establishment of centralized digital repositories for motor, health, inclusive, and national-level crop insurance programs. Additionally, the SECP is exploring the creation of a centralized insurance information bureau to streamline data management and facilitate industry-wide collaboration.

To foster a conducive regulatory environment for digital innovation, the SECP is also undertaking amendments to the Insurance Ordinance. These revisions aim to align the regulatory framework with the evolving digital landscape and provide a clear path for insurers to adopt new technologies.

Commissioner Insurance, Aamir Khan, emphasized the critical role of all stakeholders in realizing the vision of a digitally empowered insurance sector. He urged insurance companies, technology providers, and other relevant parties to collaborate closely with the SECP in implementing the roadmap.

By prioritizing digital transformation, the SECP seeks to enhance insurance penetration, improve customer experience, and contribute to Pakistan’s overall economic growth.
