Central Asia Turns To FinTech As Next Frontier For Regional Financial Integration And Digital Connectivity

Central Asia is increasingly looking to financial technology as a potential driver of regional economic integration, with digital and financial connectivity emerging as a key area for cooperation. The discussion gained momentum at the Silk Road Finance and Technology Forum 2026 in Tashkent, where Uzbekistan highlighted the need for stronger infrastructure and common standards capable of connecting financial markets across the region.

Central Bank of Uzbekistan Governor Timur Ishmetov called on investors and technology innovators to help develop infrastructure that can connect Central Asian markets and support greater cross-border financial activity. The focus is on creating an environment where fintech solutions can be developed, tested and scaled across multiple markets rather than operating within individual national systems.

The push toward greater financial connectivity reflects the region’s broader efforts to improve digital infrastructure and facilitate cross-border economic activity. Fintech platforms, interoperable payment systems and common technological standards could help financial institutions and businesses operate more efficiently across Central Asian markets while supporting wider access to digital financial services.

The development also creates opportunities for investors, fintech companies and technology providers looking to enter emerging markets across the region. With Uzbekistan positioning fintech and digital connectivity as important components of its economic development strategy, Central Asia is increasingly becoming a potential regional hub for financial technology and digital finance innovation.
