Jazz and Nokia Virtualize Subscriber Data Management Platform to Boost Network Resilience

Pakistan leading telecommunications and digital connectivity provider Jazz has successfully completed the full virtualization of its Subscriber Data Management platform in partnership with Nokia. The major core network migration was executed seamlessly across the operator national infrastructure without causing any service downtime or disruption to millions of mobile subscribers. This technical milestone represents a crucial step forward in the digital network transformation strategy of Jazz, strengthening operational security while ensuring continuous and reliable digital services for consumer and enterprise users nationwide.

The network upgrade relies on the on-premises cloud-native Subscriber Data Layer solution developed by Nokia, replacing traditional legacy subscriber management systems with a flexible, scalable, and resilient architecture. By modernizing both Home Location Register and Home Subscriber Server infrastructure into a single unified stateless database model, Jazz has eliminated legacy data silos across its core network. This architectural shift significantly improves operational agility, reduces system complexity, and establishes a consolidated database environment capable of managing high-density subscriber data loads dynamically.

Core network modernization has become vital for telecom operators facing exponential growth in data traffic, connected devices, and digital service adoption. The transition to a cloud-native Subscriber Data Layer allows Jazz to streamline network administration, optimize hardware resource usage, and accelerate the rollout of next-generation digital services. Furthermore, replacing hardware-bound subscriber databases with virtualized stateless software layers minimizes single points of failure, enabling automated failover processes and ensuring maximum network availability during peak usage periods or technical maintenance.

Commenting on the completion of the migration, Jazz Chief Technology Officer Khalid Shehzad highlighted that virtualizing the Subscriber Data Management platform represents a key milestone toward building a fully cloud-native telecommunications network. He noted that upgrading this foundational core infrastructure enhances network resilience, increases operational efficiency, and provides a future-proof foundation for emerging digital technologies. Shehzad added that the collaborative effort with Nokia allows Jazz to foster faster technical innovation and deliver superior digital connectivity to its growing customer base across Pakistan.

Nokia Vice President and Head of Middle East and Africa Services for Mobile Infrastructure Hatem El Harairi emphasized that the partnership underscores Nokia role in supporting critical digital infrastructure needed for the expanding artificial intelligence era. El Harairi stated that backing the network transformation of Jazz enhances overall performance, stability, and responsiveness across its systems, while laying the groundwork for further evolution toward intelligent, cloud-native telecom ecosystems.

This modernization initiative builds upon a long-standing technological partnership between Jazz and Nokia aimed at advancing mobile network performance in the region. As Pakistan continues its broader digital transformation agenda, investments in virtualized cloud-native architecture ensure that national telecommunication networks possess the required bandwidth, flexibility, and security to support advanced data-driven services, future mobile generations, and expanding enterprise digital requirements.
