Bank Makramah Approves Nasser Lootah Investment Worth $36 Million

Bank Makramah Limited has approved a proposed investment of $36 million from its majority shareholder Nasser Abdullah Hussain Lootah, marking a significant development for the Islamic bank’s capital position and ongoing financial restructuring. The investment reflects continued shareholder support as the bank works to improve its financial standing and strengthen its operations in Pakistan’s banking sector.

The proposed investment by Lootah represents a substantial capital commitment to Bank Makramah and is expected to provide additional financial support for the institution. Lootah is the bank’s majority shareholder and has previously played a central role in its ownership and transformation following its conversion from Summit Bank into an Islamic banking institution.

The approval comes as Bank Makramah continues its efforts to reposition itself within Pakistan’s financial sector. The bank has been pursuing measures aimed at improving its balance sheet, strengthening capital adequacy and expanding its Islamic banking operations while addressing financial and operational challenges.

The latest shareholder commitment also highlights the importance of fresh capital in supporting banks undergoing restructuring and transformation. For Bank Makramah, the investment could provide additional resources to support its business strategy and improve its capacity to expand financial services while maintaining regulatory requirements.

The $36 million investment therefore represents an important step in Bank Makramah’s ongoing transformation. Continued shareholder backing, combined with improvements in financial performance and operational efficiency, will remain important as the bank seeks to strengthen its position in Pakistan’s increasingly competitive Islamic banking market.
