Pakistan Shops Online: Convenience & COVID Fuel E-commerce Growth

Pakistan’s online shopping scene is booming, fueled by a growing consumer preference for convenience and a surge in e-commerce businesses. Experts attribute this rise to factors like avoiding traffic and saving time, while highlighting the resilience of online sales figures.

Building trust is key, with established e-stores prioritizing transparency, accurate descriptions, secure payments, and responsive customer service. Local players like foodpanda, Daraz, and Krave Mart are thriving alongside international giants like Amazon and JD.com.

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated this trend, with people turning to online shopping for safety reasons. IT experts report a twentyfold increase in e-store development requests globally, reflecting businesses’ desire to meet customer demand.

“Online supermarkets offer unparalleled convenience and accessibility,” says Syed Taha Magrabi of foodpanda Pakistan. Their platform has seen double-digit user base growth since 2023, showcasing the growing preference for online shopping.

While challenges like logistics, inventory management, and competition exist for sellers, and occasional delivery delays or quality concerns for buyers, the overall trend suggests a sustainable and growing e-commerce sector in Pakistan. Experts see a large untapped market, urging collaboration within the industry to reach more customers.

However, full-day internet disruptions remain a concern, impacting businesses and customer service. Addressing such issues will be crucial for continued growth in Pakistan’s dynamic online shopping landscape.
