BankIslami Pakistan Limited reported a profit after tax of approximately PKR 3.1 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, according to its financial results released in October. The bank recorded total deposits of PKR 630.7 billion during the period, while its Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) ratio reached 74.7%, compared with 71.2% at the end of December 2025. The results highlight changes in the bank’s deposit mix alongside its earnings performance during the first three quarters of the year. Current accounts accounted for 50% of total deposits, up from 43.6% at the end of 2025, with current account balances growing by 9.7% since December. BankIslami also reported total income of approximately PKR 31.9 billion and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 14.9%. The results provide an overview of the bank’s financial position as it continues to operate across retail, corporate and other Islamic banking services.
Despite the higher CASA ratio, BankIslami’s nine-month profit after tax declined compared with the corresponding period in 2025. Its consolidated profit after tax stood at approximately PKR 3.08 billion, down 39.23% from PKR 5.07 billion a year earlier. Earnings per share also fell to PKR 2.78 from PKR 4.58. Total income decreased by 4.7% to around PKR 32.01 billion, while operating expenses increased by 15.81% to approximately PKR 26.68 billion. A major factor behind the decline was the change in gains from securities: the bank recorded a small net loss on securities during the reporting period, compared with a gain of approximately PKR 3.36 billion in the same period last year. These figures show that the improvement in the deposit mix did not translate into higher overall earnings during the nine-month period. The difference between deposit indicators and profitability is important when assessing a bank’s performance, as both income generation and operating costs affect its financial results.
The CASA ratio measures the proportion of a bank’s deposits held in current and savings accounts. These accounts are generally important to banks because their funding costs can differ from those associated with other deposit products. BankIslami’s increase in the ratio to 74.7% indicates a larger share of deposits held in current and savings accounts than at the end of 2025. However, the ratio alone does not establish how much the bank’s funding costs have changed or how this shift will affect future earnings. The bank’s reported total deposits of PKR 630.7 billion provide further context on the scale of its deposit base at the end of September. Meanwhile, its CAR of 14.9% measures capital relative to risk-weighted assets and serves as an indicator of the bank’s capital position. A full assessment of financial performance requires these indicators to be considered alongside asset quality, financing growth, liquidity and profitability rather than treating any single ratio as a complete measure of performance.
BankIslami continues to provide services across retail and corporate banking, cash management, investment banking, trade and home remittances through a nationwide branch network. The bank has also highlighted its digital banking capabilities, having received recognition as Pakistan’s Best Islamic Digital Bank at the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards earlier in 2026. Its wider operations reflect the role of technology and customer-facing services in the development of Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector. However, the nine-month results show that deposit composition and profitability can move in different directions, with a higher CASA ratio occurring alongside a year-on-year decline in profit after tax. Future quarterly results will provide further information on whether income, expenses and earnings begin to improve. For customers and market observers, the bank’s financial disclosures offer several measures for monitoring its performance, including the size of its deposit base, the composition of deposits, capital adequacy and its ability to generate sustainable earnings while delivering Shariah-compliant banking services.
