PEA Secures Permanent Representation to Boost E-Commerce Growth in Pakistan

Pakistan E-Commerce Association (PEA) recently engaged in a significant meeting aimed at enhancing the growth of the e-commerce sector in the country. On October 17, 2024, PEA representatives met with Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah, the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), and Mian Abuzar Shad, President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), to discuss actionable strategies for improving the e-commerce landscape in Pakistan.

The PEA delegation included key members such as Haider Ahmed Qazi, Azam Malik, Faheem Raza, Uns Naeem, Syed Jahangir Ali, Rana Hassan Talal, and Touseeef Bajwa. Umair Arshad, a founding member and Information Secretary of the PEA, led the discussions, focusing on the necessity of reducing taxation and fostering a more conducive environment for e-commerce growth.

During the meeting, the PEA presented several recommendations designed to streamline tax policies and facilitate the growth of digital commerce. Dr. Jah acknowledged the importance of these suggestions and expressed his commitment to integrating them into governmental strategies. As a result, he granted the PEA permanent representation at the government level, ensuring the association’s ongoing involvement in policy-making decisions related to e-commerce.

This development is viewed as a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s e-commerce industry. It not only solidifies the PEA’s role in advocating for the sector but also promises to bring about significant positive changes that could enhance the country’s digital economy. The collaboration is expected to yield fruitful results, enabling e-commerce businesses to thrive and contribute further to the national economy.

The PEA expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in this successful initiative, with special thanks extended to Dr. Jah and Mian Abuzar Shad for their support and commitment to the growth of the e-commerce sector in Pakistan. The association looks forward to continuing its efforts to promote innovation and expansion within this vital industry.
