Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) has onboarded TPS Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited to provide mobile banking and internet banking applications, marking a step in the bank’s efforts to expand its digital banking capabilities. The onboarding ceremony took place on October 7, 2026, at ZTBL’s head office in Islamabad and was attended by the bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer, senior management, and representatives from TPS Pakistan, including its CEO, COO and other senior officials. The collaboration is intended to support the delivery of more convenient, technology-driven banking services to ZTBL customers.
The selection of TPS Pakistan followed an open competitive procurement process under the framework of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). Dr. Haseeb Akhter, an independent procurement expert at PPRA Pakistan, highlighted the importance of open competition in public procurement, describing it as a means of achieving value for money, transparency, efficiency and the selection of capable service providers. The procurement process is particularly relevant for public-sector financial institutions, where transparent purchasing practices can help ensure that technology investments meet institutional requirements while maintaining accountability.
Through the onboarding, ZTBL plans to enhance the digital channels available to its customers by introducing mobile and internet banking applications. These platforms can provide customers with digital access to supported banking services without requiring them to visit a physical branch for every transaction. Depending on the features implemented, digital banking applications may allow users to review account information, monitor transactions and carry out selected financial activities remotely. For a specialised agricultural bank serving farmers and other customers across Pakistan, expanding digital access could help improve the convenience of banking services, particularly for customers who face challenges reaching branches. The actual benefits will depend on the applications’ features, rollout, accessibility and customer adoption.
The collaboration reflects the wider shift towards digital banking across Pakistan’s financial sector, where banks are investing in technology to improve service delivery and expand access to financial services. For ZTBL, working with TPS Pakistan provides a route to develop its mobile and internet banking capabilities through an external technology provider. The initiative’s longer-term impact will depend on implementation and how effectively customers adopt the new channels. It also highlights the role of transparent procurement in public-sector technology projects, where selecting capable providers is important for delivering reliable digital services. Further details about the applications’ launch timeline, specific features and availability to customers were not included in the announcement.
