Meezan Bank has completed the end-to-end migration of its payments business to BPC’s SmartVista platform, moving 7.5 million active cards, its merchant network and payment-processing operations onto the technology infrastructure. The bank announced the achievement in October 2026, describing it as a major step in modernising its digital payments systems and preparing them to support future growth. The migration covers several payment services, including card transactions, point-of-sale (POS) payments, e-commerce transactions, QR payments, payment gateway services, fraud management and instant payments. According to the bank, the platform can support peak transaction volumes exceeding 1,500 transactions per second. Bringing these functions together on a unified platform is intended to provide a scalable foundation for the bank’s expanding payments operations while maintaining service continuity for customers and merchants during the transition.
The migration is particularly relevant to Meezan Bank’s growing digital payment activity, which includes card-based purchases, merchant transactions and instant transfers through Pakistan’s Raast payment system. The bank currently processes approximately two million Raast transactions daily and supports a merchant acceptance network of more than 100,000 QR codes, according to its announcement. By consolidating payment-processing functions on SmartVista, Meezan Bank aims to support the continued expansion of these services across physical and online channels. The platform also incorporates fraud management capabilities, which form an important part of payment operations as transaction volumes increase and customers use multiple digital channels. The bank has positioned the migration as an infrastructure upgrade rather than the launch of a new consumer payment product. Its expected value lies in providing a common technology foundation for managing existing services and accommodating further growth in digital transactions.
The achievement was highlighted at the BPC Client Conference 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, where Meezan Bank Chief Information Officer Ali Imran Khan presented a case study on the bank’s long-term technology vision, strategic investments and approach to digital innovation. Khan said the end-to-end migration represented a major step in developing the bank’s digital payments infrastructure for its next phase of growth. He also emphasised the importance of scale, security and innovation across the bank’s payment channels, while noting that the programme had been completed with continuity and control. The bank’s Group Head of Information Technology, Faiz ur Rehman, also described the transition as an important milestone in its technology transformation. According to the bank, the project involved coordination between its business and technology teams and BPC, with operational continuity maintained throughout the migration process.
BPC’s SmartVista platform now provides the unified processing foundation for Meezan Bank’s card portfolio, merchant acquiring services, payment gateway, fraud management and instant payment capabilities. The migration comes as banks in Pakistan continue to invest in systems capable of supporting electronic commerce, QR-based payments and faster digital transfers. For financial institutions, modernising payment infrastructure can help manage increasing transaction volumes while supporting the integration of different payment channels. For merchants and customers, the underlying systems play a role in the reliability and availability of everyday payment services, even when technology changes are not directly visible to users. Meezan Bank’s announcement places the completed migration at the centre of its ongoing digital banking development, with SmartVista intended to support future expansion across cards, merchant services and Raast. The bank has not announced a separate new payment product alongside the migration, but the updated infrastructure establishes a platform for developing its existing digital payment services.
