Auto Financing in Pakistan Hits Record High of 382 Billion Rupees Amid Broader Consumer Lending Surge

Auto financing in Pakistan experienced a sharp upward trajectory in June 2026, marking a historic milestone for the domestic banking sector. Financial data compiled by market brokerage firm Arif Habib Limited reveals that total outstanding auto loans expanded to an unprecedented three hundred and eighty-two billion rupees during the month. This substantial volume represents a major thirty-eight percent annual surge when compared to the two hundred and seventy-seven billion rupees recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year. On a month-on-month basis, the outstanding car financing portfolio demonstrated a robust growth rate of three point four percent, successfully eclipsing the previous historical record of three hundred and sixty-nine billion rupees that had just been established in May 2026.

This recent performance indicates that automotive credit lines have achieved a sustained recovery phase following severe macro-level contractions witnessed in previous years. The financing portfolio had previously bottomed out near two hundred and twenty-five billion rupees in 2024 as a direct consequence of aggressive state-directed monetary tightening policies, record-high policy rates, and prohibitive borrowing costs that constrained consumer appetite. Since navigating that cyclical trough, the automotive credit ecosystem has expanded consistently month over month, successfully regaining its lost momentum and climbing to its highest absolute level observed in more than three years. This ongoing credit revival directly mirrors the broader physical recovery tracked across the domestic automotive manufacturing complex, where aggregate car and jeep production output surged by over sixty percent during the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2025-2026 due to improved manufacturing supply chains, easing credit conditions, and enhanced vehicle availability.

Simultaneously, overall credit distribution to the private sector maintained a distinct upward trend, signaling a broad-based revival in commercial economic activity. Total gross loans extended to private sector entities reached eleven point sixteen trillion rupees in June 2026, showcasing a fifteen point four percent annual expansion against the nine point sixty-seven trillion rupees tracked a year earlier, alongside a four point four percent monthly gain from May. Conventional corporate business lending, which consistently commands the lion’s share of aggregate private sector credit allocation, advanced to nine point sixty trillion rupees. This structural business funding metric represents a notable fourteen percent increase year on year and a four point seven percent expansion over the immediately preceding month.

Furthermore, general consumer financing recorded exceptionally strong momentum, climbing twenty-five point four percent on an annualized basis to settle at one point fifteen trillion rupees. Within the specialized segments of consumer-facing bank credit, outstanding personal loans rose seven point seven percent to hit two hundred and eighty-three billion rupees. House building finance portfolios demonstrated remarkable resilience by surging twenty-nine percent to reach two hundred and sixty-seven billion rupees. Concurrently, outstanding credit card balances also experienced a significant upward movement, climbing twenty-nine point one percent year on year to end the fiscal cycle at two hundred and five billion rupees. This comprehensive credit expansion underlines a generalized return of consumer confidence across multiple banking channels as borrowing conditions continue to stabilize across the country.
