A senior leadership delegation from VEON Group and JazzWorld met with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu to discuss ways of improving the country’s capital markets, widening financial inclusion, and building out digital infrastructure. The delegation was led by VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu and JazzWorld CEO Aamir Ibrahim, and also included Zaheer Mehdi, Group Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, Saima Kamila Khan, Chief Legal Officer at JazzWorld, and Farrukh H. Khan, Chief Financial Officer at JazzWorld. The meeting focused on technology-led innovation and how regulatory support could help unlock new investment across Pakistan’s digital economy.
During the discussion, the leadership team acknowledged the progress made in Pakistan’s capital markets and credited SECP’s efforts to improve market efficiency, transparency, and investor confidence. Much of the conversation centered on how to mobilize greater investment in data centers, cloud services, and artificial intelligence capabilities, as demand for these areas continues to grow across the country. The two sides also explored what closer collaboration between the technology and financial sectors could look like in supporting the wider digital economy, along with opportunities to grow Pakistan’s insurance ecosystem through better awareness and digital distribution.
Speaking on the meeting, Kaan Terzioglu said that Pakistan’s digital transformation calls for substantial investment in infrastructure, technology, and new financial models. He added that as a long-term investor in the country, VEON sees room to work with institutions such as SECP to build frameworks that free up capital, support innovation, and back the digital economy going forward. Aamir Ibrahim, meanwhile, noted that JazzWorld has grown well beyond its origins as a telecom operator into what he described as one of the leading integrated digital ServiceCos in Pakistan, with operations spanning financial services, banking, insurance, artificial intelligence, and technology. He said the company’s scale and distribution network could help turn regulatory innovation into solutions that reach millions of Pakistanis and local businesses.
Beyond infrastructure and capital markets, the meeting also touched on expanding access to financial services more broadly, with both sides pointing to digital distribution and technology-driven solutions as key levers for reaching underserved segments of the population. The discussion closed with VEON and JazzWorld reaffirming their intent to keep working with SECP and other stakeholders on investment, financial inclusion, and the ongoing development of Pakistan’s digital economy. No specific timelines, funding figures, or formal agreements were announced following the meeting, though officials from both sides described the talks as constructive and said further engagement would follow.
