World Bank Meets SECP Chairman To Discuss Capital Markets Financial Sector And Private Growth

World Bank Practice Manager Mr. Isfandyar Zaman Khan met Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu as part of the World Bank’s ongoing mission to Pakistan. During the meeting, Khan briefed the SECP Chairman on the World Bank’s priorities covering financial and private sector development, capital market deepening, long-term finance, competitiveness and private sector-led growth aimed at creating jobs.

The discussions covered several areas of financial and corporate sector reform, including debt market development and changes to the insolvency regime. The participants also reviewed reforms aimed at improving access to lending for the private sector, alongside ongoing World Bank-supported projects focused on Pakistan’s microfinance and insurance sectors.

Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu appreciated the World Bank’s strategic cooperation with Pakistan and highlighted the importance of creating Tribunals under the SECP Act. He noted that establishing these tribunals could contribute to improving investor confidence in Pakistan’s corporate and financial sectors by supporting the implementation of key regulatory reforms.

The meeting reflects continued engagement between the SECP and the World Bank on reforms involving capital markets, financial services and private sector development. Areas including debt markets, insolvency, microfinance and insurance remain part of the broader reform agenda aimed at supporting financing and investment activity in Pakistan.
