Wise Accounts Expected In Pakistan Within Weeks To Help Freelancers Receive International Payments More Easily

Wise accounts are reportedly expected to become available to Pakistani freelancers within the coming weeks, potentially giving the country’s growing digital workforce a new option for receiving and managing international payments. The development comes as Pakistan continues to see strong growth in freelance and technology-driven exports.

The potential availability of Wise accounts could address a long-standing challenge for Pakistani freelancers who work with international clients and need convenient ways to receive foreign currency payments. Wise has already been used by overseas senders to transfer money into Pakistan, but residents have historically faced restrictions on directly opening and using full Wise accounts.

The development could be particularly significant for freelancers who regularly receive payments from clients abroad. Pakistan’s freelance export earnings reached $1.6 billion during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025-26, highlighting the scale of the sector and the growing demand for efficient cross-border payment solutions.

Wise has also been engaging with Pakistani authorities over potential expansion of its services. Earlier reports indicated discussions with the State Bank of Pakistan around integration with Raast, which could support faster and more transparent inbound transfers if the necessary regulatory arrangements are completed.

If the reported timeline materializes, the availability of Wise accounts could give Pakistani freelancers another alternative alongside existing international payment platforms. However, users will need to wait for an official announcement and confirmation of the exact features, eligibility requirements, and services that will be available to Pakistan residents.
