The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has held a meeting with Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib to explore a national capacity-building agenda focused on virtual assets, blockchain and tokenisation. HEC Chairman Niaz Ahmad Akhtar led the discussion, which focused on developing collaboration between academia and industry around emerging digital and financial technologies.
As part of the proposed agenda, leading universities will be engaged in areas including curriculum development, research, regulatory awareness and industry-linked training. The collaboration is intended to create stronger links between academic institutions and the evolving virtual assets and blockchain ecosystem, while providing students with opportunities to develop relevant technical and industry knowledge.
The discussions also covered the importance of building awareness around the regulatory environment for virtual assets. Greater engagement between universities, industry stakeholders and regulators could help academic programmes incorporate developments in digital assets and blockchain while providing students with a clearer understanding of the regulatory considerations surrounding these technologies.
HEC Chairman Niaz Ahmad Akhtar emphasized the importance of preparing a future-ready workforce equipped with skills in emerging technologies. The focus on virtual assets, blockchain and tokenisation reflects the growing relevance of these technologies within digital and financial infrastructure.
The proposed collaboration between HEC and PVARA represents an effort to connect higher education with Pakistan’s emerging digital assets ecosystem. Through curriculum development, research and industry-linked training, participating universities are expected to contribute to developing skills and knowledge relevant to the country’s next generation of digital and financial infrastructure.
