Ant Group, a leading fintech company in China, launched a nationwide program to establish International Consumer Friendly Zones in major tourist and commercial cities. This initiative aims to improve the experience for international visitors by making mobile payments more accessible and convenient.
Through Alipay+, a suite of cross-border mobile payment solutions, overseas visitors can now pay using their home e-wallets or by linking international bank cards to the Alipay app. This eliminates the need for a local bank account or phone number.
The program focuses on enhancing these mobile payment options in key locations frequented by travelers, such as transportation hubs, tourist attractions, hotels, and shopping districts. This will involve expanding bilingual support, providing user guides, and training merchants to ensure a smooth experience.
As part of this launch, NayaPay, a leading Pakistani fintech platform, announced that its users can now make payments at Alipay+’s network of 80 million merchants in China. This signifies the first direct payment channel between China and Pakistan.
Industry leaders from Visa, NUCC (China’s clearing house), and Ant Group all expressed their commitment to this program. They believe it will not only boost the economies of participating countries but also promote cultural and economic exchange.
Alipay+ currently connects over 88 million merchants globally with consumers from over 25 e-wallets and banking apps. This program is expected to further expand cross-border technology and service cooperation, making travel and global commerce more seamless.
