FBR Partners with Karandaaz for Tax System Digitalization

In a significant move towards modernization, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has partnered with Karandaaz Pakistan to digitize the tax system, aligning with ongoing tax administration reforms.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked following a meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and officials from FBR and Karandaaz Pakistan. During the discussion, the focus was on exploring options to facilitate businesses and adopt people-centric approaches in designing digital solutions.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb stressed the importance of leveraging top-tier human capital and engaging experienced international consultants to ensure the success of the initiative. He emphasized the need for utilizing best practices from similar contexts where tax digitalization has been successfully implemented.

Under this collaboration, Karandaaz Pakistan will assess FBR’s business needs, existing IT infrastructure, and processes to determine the scope for digitalizing the tax system. The goal is to develop service-oriented and taxpayer-centric solutions that streamline tax processes.

Representatives from both organizations, including FBR Member Reforms and Modernization Ardsher Salim Tariq and Karandaaz Pakistan Director Digital Services Sharjeel Murtaza, signed the MoU.

During the signing ceremony, FBR’s Zubair Tiwana highlighted the board’s efforts towards automation and digitalizing the economy, including supply chain management, to address challenges posed by the undocumented economy and expand the tax base.

Karandaaz Pakistan CEO Waqas ul Hasan emphasized that the digital transformation would make taxpayers’ needs central to the system, making tax administration more resilient and responsive. He expressed optimism about the nationwide benefits resulting from this initiative upon completion.
