NIBAF Pakistan, under the guidance of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), has concluded a two-day Inter-Provincial Curriculum Workshop (IPCW) under the Financial Literacy Integration Project (FLIP), resulting in a national consensus on approximately 180 unified Financial Literacy Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). The workshop brought together curriculum and subject experts from across Pakistan to develop a common framework for integrating financial literacy into national and provincial education systems. The development marks an important step in efforts to make financial education a formal part of students’ learning and provide young people with basic knowledge and skills related to financial matters.
The workshop followed advocacy activities, provincial-level reviews and technical consultations involving curriculum stakeholders from across the country. Representatives and curriculum experts from provincial curriculum authorities participated in the process, working toward common learning outcomes that can be incorporated into educational curricula. The national consensus covers approximately 180 Financial Literacy SLOs, which will now move toward the next stage of formal notification by the respective curriculum authorities. The process is intended to create greater consistency in how financial literacy is introduced to students across different education systems and provinces.
The conclusion of the workshop was marked through a high-level ceremony titled “Shaping Pakistan’s Future through Integration of Financial Literacy in Curriculum.” The event was attended by Federal Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Nadeem Mahbub, CEO NIBAF Pakistan Lubna Farooq Malik, Director of the National Curriculum Council Wing Dr. Tabassum Naz, along with representatives and curriculum experts from provincial curriculum authorities. Their participation reflected the involvement of federal and provincial education stakeholders in the financial literacy integration process. NIBAF said the initiative has now progressed from consultation and curriculum development toward formal implementation steps.
Following the agreement on the unified learning outcomes, supporting financial literacy content is also being developed. The content development process is expected to provide educational material aligned with the agreed SLOs and support their eventual integration into classroom learning. The initiative is being led by NIBAF Pakistan under the guidance of the SBP, with the involvement of education and curriculum authorities. By establishing common learning outcomes before the development and notification of supporting content, the project aims to create a structured basis for financial literacy education across different levels of the education system.
The FLIP initiative comes as financial literacy remains closely connected with broader efforts to increase participation in formal financial services and improve understanding of financial products. Introducing financial concepts through the education system can give students an early foundation for managing money and understanding financial services as they progress through their education. With the national consensus now reached on around 180 learning outcomes, the project is moving toward formal notification and content development. NIBAF’s latest workshop therefore represents a significant development in the effort to integrate financial literacy into Pakistan’s national and provincial curricula and establish it as a more consistent component of learning for students across the country.
