Easypaisa Digital Bank President and CEO Jahanzeb Khan highlighted the rapid growth of Islamic finance in Pakistan while speaking at the Azimuth Dialogue during the Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum in Tashkent. He noted that Islamic banking deposits in Pakistan increased by nearly 40% year-on-year by the end of 2025, reflecting the expanding role of Shariah-compliant financial services within the country’s banking sector.
Jahanzeb said Islamic banking has moved beyond being a niche segment and is increasingly becoming an important part of Pakistan’s wider financial system. He stressed that the next stage of development should focus not only on expanding digital access but also on converting digital connectivity into meaningful and trusted financial participation for customers.
According to the easypaisa CEO, technology can bring customers onto digital financial platforms, but long-term financial inclusion depends on building confidence, providing relevant solutions and addressing customers’ financial needs and values. This approach places trust and customer relevance alongside technological access as key factors in expanding participation in formal financial services.
The discussion at the Tashkent forum reflects the broader convergence of Islamic finance, digital banking and fintech across emerging markets. For Pakistan, the continued expansion of digital financial services alongside growing demand for Islamic banking could create further opportunities to reach underserved customers and develop financial products that combine digital convenience with Shariah-compliant principles.
