Finqalab Managing Director Humaira Asad visited Karachi University last Friday to discuss stock market investing and informed financial decision-making with students. The session focused on fundamental analysis, helping participants understand the importance of evaluating a business before investing in its stock. Asad explained that investors should look beyond share prices and consider the underlying business when assessing investment opportunities. She discussed the key factors to examine before making investment decisions and highlighted how understanding a company can help investors make more informed choices. The session aimed to introduce students to the principles of thoughtful investing and provide practical insights into how financial knowledge can be applied when evaluating stocks.
Asad also discussed the influence of emotions on investment decisions, particularly fear and greed. She explained that these emotions can affect market behaviour and influence individual investors when deciding whether to buy or sell stocks. Recognising these reactions and keeping them under control is an important part of developing a disciplined investment approach. The discussion highlighted that investing involves more than tracking market prices, as understanding business fundamentals and managing emotional responses are also essential considerations. By introducing these concepts, the session encouraged students to think carefully about their investment choices rather than reacting impulsively to market movements.
To put the concepts into practice, students participated in a mock trading game based on fictional market scenarios. The activity included several rounds in which teams made trading decisions and tested their ability to respond to different situations. The team that achieved the highest earnings during the game was declared the winner. The simulation provided students with an interactive opportunity to explore investment decision-making and understand how their choices could affect trading outcomes without participating in actual financial markets. Finqalab expressed appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm, curiosity, and engagement, noting the value of helping young people connect financial concepts with practical situations.
Finqalab also thanked Arfeen Siddiqui, Professor of Finance, and Farrukh Aslam, Professor of Management, for helping organise the session at Karachi University. Their support helped bring the investment discussion to students and facilitated an opportunity to explore financial market concepts beyond theoretical learning. Finqalab said it looks forward to further opportunities to connect with students and continue similar discussions. The session highlighted the importance of financial education in helping young people understand fundamental analysis, investor behaviour, and the decision-making processes involved in stock market investing.
