The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has introduced a new digital onboarding framework aimed at making stock market investing faster, easier and more accessible for investors. Under the framework, facilitation accounts will be opened within one day, while decisions on investor account applications will be completed within two days. Investors will also receive a tracking ID to monitor the progress of their applications.
The new framework will enable 24/7 digital onboarding and processing, allowing investors to complete account-opening procedures without being restricted to traditional working hours. Brokers will also be required to provide written reasons when rejecting an account-opening application, while investors who have already completed verification will not be required to undergo the process again.
The SECP said the initiative is part of efforts to increase participation in Pakistan’s capital markets, with a target of reaching 2.5 million investors. Increasing participation among younger people is also a key priority as the regulator seeks to make stock market investment more accessible through technology.
SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said technology is being used to simplify stock market investment and improve access for investors. The regulator believes the digital onboarding framework can reduce procedural delays while creating a more convenient entry point for individuals seeking to participate in Pakistan’s capital market.
