SBP Invites Artists for Banknote Design Submissions

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued an open invitation to artists, designers, and art students to unleash their creativity and submit designs for the upcoming banknote series.

Participants can propose designs for all seven existing denominations (Rs. 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000) or select fewer denominations based on preference. Design submissions must be presented in hard copy on white paper, accompanied by a brief write-up (up to 100 words) in either English or Urdu explaining the design’s theme.

Each banknote denomination must feature unique and easily distinguishable colors. A panel of esteemed artists will evaluate the designs and recommend the top six designs for each denomination to the SBP. The top three designs for each denomination will receive cash prizes of Rs. 1,000,000/-, Rs. 500,000/-, and Rs. 300,000/- respectively.

Participants must ensure their designs are free from copyright claims. Notable exclusions from participation include members of the Jury, SBP and its subsidiaries, and their immediate families. Submitted designs will become the property of the SBP, which reserves the right to utilize or modify them for banknote production without additional compensation.

For inquiries about the Art Competition, reach out to the designated contact. Selected design ideas and themes will be passed on to professional banknote designers through a competitive process for finalization.

While the existing banknote series will continue circulation, plans for their gradual withdrawal will be considered once the new series is sufficiently in circulation.

Artists and designers have until March 11, 2024, to submit their innovative designs to the Director of the Finance Department at the SBP’s headquarters in Karachi.
