Meezan Bank, in collaboration with UBL, organized a Remittance and Roshan Digital Account Roadshow in London, bringing together key stakeholders and members of the Pakistani community to highlight the growing role of remittances and the Roshan Digital Account in building financial links with Pakistan. The event was aimed at overseas Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom, giving them a direct channel to learn about banking and investment options available to them back home.
The roadshow featured State Bank of Pakistan Governor Jameel Ahmad, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, High Commissioner of Pakistan to the United Kingdom Tipu Usman, and Meezan Bank President and CEO Dr. Syed Amir Ali. Zia Ul Hasan, Chief Operating Officer for Retail Banking at Meezan Bank, also attended along with other guests and members of the Pakistani community. During the session, the Finance Minister pointed to continued momentum in Roshan Digital Account inflows, which have risen from over 200 million dollars to nearly 300 million dollars, a figure that underlines how the account has become a meaningful source of foreign currency for the country since its introduction.
Speaking on behalf of Meezan Bank, Dr. Syed Amir Ali said the bank remains focused on deepening its relationship with overseas Pakistanis by offering accessible, convenient, and Shariah-compliant banking solutions that allow them to keep a financial connection with Pakistan regardless of where they live. The session also served as a platform to exchange views on the changing remittance landscape, with participants discussing what overseas Pakistanis look for when choosing a channel to send money home, including security, convenience, and the availability of Islamic banking options. Meezan Bank thanked the Pakistan High Commission in the UK for its support in making the engagement possible.
The roadshow reflected a shared commitment among the bank, its partner UBL, and government representatives to make banking and remittance services easier for the overseas community to access. Remittances remain one of the largest sources of foreign exchange for Pakistan, and events of this kind allow banks and policymakers to speak directly with the diaspora about the products available to them, from everyday remittance channels to the Roshan Digital Account, which lets non-resident Pakistanis open accounts and invest in the country remotely. The bank closed its announcement with a message that no matter the distance, an overseas Pakistani’s connection with the country remains intact, while no further roadshow dates or new product announcements were shared alongside the London event.
