Easypaisa and Transsion Build Smartphone Distribution Channels to Expand Digital Finance Across Pakistan

Easypaisa and Transsion have entered into a strategic partnership to expand the distribution and discovery of digital financial services across Pakistan through Transsion’s smartphone ecosystem, which includes TECNO, Infinix, and itel. Announced on October 12, 2026, the collaboration aims to make financial services easier for consumers to discover and access through their mobile devices. The initiative reflects a shift in how fintech companies approach customer acquisition, moving beyond conventional digital advertising towards partnerships that connect applications directly with smartphone platforms. According to the announcement published by ProPakistani, Transsion has more than 44 million devices in Pakistan, while its Palmstore platform records over 17 million monthly active users in the country. This existing reach provides Easypaisa with potential opportunities to introduce its digital financial services to consumers through device-level app discovery, pre-installation options, and other mobile distribution mechanisms. The companies are seeking to bring access to financial services closer to the everyday digital experiences of smartphone users.

The partnership addresses a common challenge for digital financial service providers: reaching new customers while reducing the steps between discovering an application, downloading it, registering, and using its services. Traditional digital advertising can generate awareness and attract clicks, but smartphone ecosystems offer additional ways for applications to reach consumers directly. Through Transsion’s distribution channels, Easypaisa can explore ways to improve app visibility and simplify the user journey. The approach may be particularly relevant in smaller cities and areas outside Pakistan’s largest urban centres, where TECNO, Infinix, and itel have established a consumer presence. For people with limited experience using formal digital financial services, easier application discovery could reduce one barrier to initial adoption. However, access to an application alone does not guarantee that users will register, complete verification, or regularly use financial products. The ultimate results will depend on the quality of the onboarding process, the services available, customer trust, connectivity, and how effectively users can complete transactions. The announcement did not disclose specific financial targets, projected customer additions, or confirmed reductions in customer acquisition costs.

The collaboration also highlights the changing role of smartphone manufacturers in the digital services market. Manufacturers have traditionally been associated with producing and distributing hardware, but their device ecosystems increasingly provide channels for users to discover, install, and engage with applications. This creates opportunities for fintech platforms to reach potential customers through the devices they already use, rather than relying entirely on advertising campaigns across external platforms. Transsion representatives involved in advancing the partnership include Michael Wang, Vice President of Global Partnerships; Matt Luo, Director of Sales and Partnerships for Asia-Pacific; and Max Zhang, Head of Product Engineering. In Pakistan, Muhammad Abdul Qadeer, Transsion’s Country Business Manager, played a central role in developing and coordinating the collaboration. Easypaisa representatives involved included Chief Executive Officer Jahanzeb Khan, Chief Digital Officer Farhan Hassan, and Head of Growth Hani Haider. The involvement of commercial, product, and technology teams from both organizations reflects the operational coordination required to connect a financial services platform with a smartphone distribution ecosystem. The announcement describes the initial integration phase as underway, with Easypaisa exploring device-level discovery mechanisms and efforts to improve the user journey in different connectivity environments, including areas with low bandwidth.

The broader significance of the partnership lies in its potential to make digital financial services more accessible through existing mobile infrastructure. Pakistan’s fintech sector continues to face the challenge of turning growing smartphone usage into meaningful participation in formal financial services. Device-level distribution could help companies reach consumers who may not actively search for financial applications, while simpler discovery and installation processes may reduce friction during onboarding. The model could also provide insights into whether smartphone manufacturers can serve as effective distribution partners for financial platforms beyond conventional advertising arrangements. Nevertheless, the impact on financial inclusion will need to be assessed through measurable outcomes, including successful registrations, active users, completed transactions, and sustained engagement with digital financial products. Neither company disclosed detailed performance figures or a timetable for evaluating the initiative’s results. As the integration progresses, its effectiveness will depend on whether greater application visibility translates into practical and reliable access to services. The Easypaisa-Transsion collaboration therefore represents an emerging approach to fintech distribution in Pakistan, placing smartphone ecosystems at the centre of efforts to expand customer reach and encourage broader use of digital financial services.
