DigiKhata Receives NBFC License from SECP to Offer Digital Credit for SMEs and MSMEs

DigiKhata Financial Services Ltd. has announced that it has been granted a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) license by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), marking a major milestone in its journey from a bookkeeping platform to a regulated fintech lender.

The license allows DigiKhata to formally enter the digital credit space, with a focus on addressing Pakistan’s persistent financing gap for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Despite being the backbone of the country’s economy, these businesses face limited access to formal credit channels, a challenge DigiKhata now aims to resolve through technology-driven solutions.

With millions of small businesses already using its platform for bookkeeping and payments facilitation, DigiKhata is well positioned to leverage its existing user base to provide instant and accessible credit services. The move is expected to accelerate financial inclusion, empower underserved entrepreneurs, and contribute to the overall growth of Pakistan’s digital economy.

In its official statement, DigiKhata highlighted three key areas of impact:

  • Strengthening financial inclusion by extending credit access to unbanked and underbanked segments.
  • Empowering entrepreneurs with timely financing options tailored to their business needs.
  • Supporting economic growth by bridging the credit gap and fostering digital adoption in commerce.

The company also expressed its gratitude to SECP for fostering a progressive regulatory environment that enables fintech innovation while ensuring customer protection and systemic stability.

Industry observers note that DigiKhata’s entry into regulated lending could be transformative for Pakistan’s fintech sector, signaling the rise of digital-first financial institutions designed specifically for SMEs and grassroots entrepreneurs.

With this milestone, DigiKhata joins a growing group of fintechs licensed to operate as NBFCs in Pakistan, potentially reshaping the future of credit distribution and access to finance in the country.
