BankIslami has highlighted its financial performance for the first nine months of 2026, reporting profit after tax of approximately PKR 3.1 billion for the period ended September 30. The Islamic bank also reported total deposits of PKR 630.7 billion and a Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) ratio of 74.7%, up from 71.2% at the end of December 2025. In a recent LinkedIn update, the bank said it continued to focus on responsible growth, innovative solutions and Shariah-compliant banking while working to deliver banking services to customers. The financial results offer insight into the bank’s deposit composition and earnings during the first three quarters of the year. However, the reported profit was lower than the corresponding period in 2025, when BankIslami recorded approximately PKR 5.07 billion in profit after tax. This shows that improvements in deposit indicators have occurred alongside pressure on year-on-year profitability.
One of the key developments during the reporting period was the increase in current account balances. BankIslami said current accounts grew by 9.7% since December 2025, raising their share of total deposits to 50%, compared with 43.6% at the end of last year. The resulting improvement in the CASA ratio indicates that current and savings accounts represented a larger proportion of the bank’s deposit base. For banks, deposit composition matters because different account types can carry different funding costs, affecting the economics of lending and other financing activities. Nevertheless, a higher CASA ratio does not automatically translate into higher profits, which also depend on financing income, operating expenses, provisions, investment returns and taxation. BankIslami reported total income of approximately PKR 32 billion for the nine-month period and a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 14.9%. These measures provide additional context for assessing the bank’s financial position, although profitability and capital strength must be considered separately from deposit growth.
BankIslami operates across retail and corporate banking, cash management, investment banking, trade services and home remittances. Its nationwide network comprises more than 560 branches, according to the bank’s published results. The institution has also highlighted its investment in technology-enabled banking services, having received recognition as Pakistan’s Best Islamic Digital Bank at the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards earlier in 2026. Digital banking services can help customers access accounts and conduct transactions through electronic channels, while providing banks with additional ways to serve retail and business clients. For Islamic financial institutions, these services operate alongside the requirement to structure banking products in accordance with Shariah principles. BankIslami has said its approach centres on making Islamic banking accessible and improving the customer experience. The latest announcement, however, does not detail specific new digital products, technology investments or service launches associated with the nine-month results.
The results come as Pakistan’s banking sector continues to operate amid changing funding conditions, customer expectations and demand for digital financial services. BankIslami’s improved CASA ratio and larger current account share indicate a shift in its deposit mix, while the decline in year-on-year profit highlights the importance of examining income and expenses together with deposit performance. The bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Imran H. Shaikh, said the institution would continue working to make Islamic banking accessible and pursue its mission of providing financial services in line with its Riba-free banking principles. Further quarterly disclosures will help show how the bank’s earnings, deposit base and capital position develop through the remainder of 2026. For customers and market observers, these indicators provide a broader view of the institution’s operations, but they do not independently establish future profitability or guarantee a particular financial outcome. BankIslami has reaffirmed its focus on responsible growth, Shariah-compliant services and customer experience as it continues its banking operations across Pakistan.
