Sindh Government Launches Online Portal for Motorcycle Fuel Subsidy Program

The Sindh government has officially deployed a sophisticated online verification and registration portal designed to streamline the motorcycle fuel subsidy program for millions of residents. This digital leap allows applicants to verify their vehicle ownership and eligibility instantly by using their Computerized National Identity Card and International Bank Account Number details. By transitioning to an automated confirmation system, the provincial administration aims to eliminate bureaucratic delays and ensure that financial assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries with high precision. This initiative marks a significant shift toward data-driven governance in the province, prioritizing transparency in the distribution of public funds.

During a detailed press briefing at the CM House, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the digital framework was finalized following extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including traders’ associations and transport unions. The Chief Minister was joined by a high-level provincial delegation, including ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Mukesh Chawala, and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. The collective leadership highlighted that this platform is not just a temporary relief measure but a structural improvement in how the provincial government interacts with the commuting public during periods of economic volatility.

Under the specific terms of the relief scheme, every verified motorcycle owner in Sindh is eligible to receive a monthly stipend of Rs2,000. This amount is calculated to subsidize approximately 20 litres of fuel per month, providing a critical financial cushion for daily wage earners and middle-income commuters who have been hit hard by the recent escalation in global energy prices. To ensure that the program is inclusive, the government has taken the unprecedented step of abolishing the Rs500 motorcycle transfer fee. This move encourages citizens to update their ownership records without financial penalty, ensuring that the subsidy is tied to the actual user of the vehicle rather than an outdated registration.

To accommodate the expected surge in registration and ownership transfers, excise offices across the province have been directed to follow extended operational hours. These offices will remain functional from 8:00 am until midnight for a 15-day period, including weekends, to facilitate the public. A dedicated helpline has also been established to provide real-time technical support to applicants navigating the online portal. According to official figures, the initiative has already gained significant traction, with approximately 1,500 motorcycles successfully transferred to their rightful owners within the first few days of the announcement.

The fuel subsidy is part of a much larger economic relief package initiated by the Sindh government. This broader strategy includes a strict freeze on public transport fares, maintaining them at the levels recorded on February 28, 2026. To support transporters during this freeze, the government is providing direct subsidies to offset their rising operational costs. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced a Rs3 billion support program specifically for small-scale farmers to protect the agricultural supply chain. Moving forward, the provincial government is exploring further digital interventions to provide targeted relief on essential commodities such as flour and basic food items, reinforcing its commitment to a citizen-centric digital economy.
