Where is My Debit Card?

Some of our earliest fans have been waiting to get their hands on SadaPay debit cards since the start of the year and we’re extremely thankful for all the support we’ve received!  We’d like to take this opportunity to provide some transparency on when SadaPay will be ready for action. We hope after reading this that you’ll have a lot more clarity on the progress we’ve been making towards our public launch.

Assembling the dream team

Over the past two months, we’ve grown our team aggressively, attracting some of the best talent from Pakistan and around the world. We have some of the most respected banking veterans as heads of our operations, compliance, risk, and finance teams. One of the recent highlights is that Mr. Jon Sheppard has joined us after serving as the CTO of Financial Services for Gojek, a $9.5 billion technology company in Asia. We’re really proud of our team’s diversity, culture, and that we’re all driven by a common mission: we want to make money so simple that any other way becomes unthinkable.

Some hurdles still remain

Getting the app ready is just one piece of a very complex puzzle that we are trying to simplify for our users.

A financial institution has to set up operational processes, regulatory compliance procedures, risk management policies, information security systems, corporate governance frameworks, and many other things. If that sounds complicated to you, that’s because it is.

Getting all of these things right takes time. Furthermore, there are much integrations we need to complete with both public and private organizations, which have unfortunately been slowed down by the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The pandemic has also caused major disruptions to the supply chain of our debit card production. These delays mean that we might not receive our first batch of SadaPay debit cards until the end of August.

What’s next?

We need to perform extensive quality checks at several stages, and we expect to test our app carefully throughout summer.  Testing will continue with limited operations in our “beta phase” for 2-4 months. If all goes well, we expect to undergo an audit with the State Bank of Pakistan. Once the audit is completed to satisfaction, we will continue onboarding SadaPay members from our waitlist for what we call the “public rollout.”

We have about 100,000 valued users on our waitlist, but we plan to roll out the cards in small batches to ensure we stay on top of customer experience. It would be very difficult for our backend teams to onboard 100,000 new users on our first day, so we would rather spread this out over the course of a few weeks in order to allow our team some breathing room to scale. This is important so we can continue to provide excellent customer service to every member of SadaPay, at all times.

Also, depending on what position you are on the waitlist, it might take a few more months before we can send you a debit card. But, if you haven’t already, you can sign up for the waitlist via sadapay.pk/waitlist. We’ve already shortlisted the first set of users for our beta testing, but we may send out a few more invites over the coming weeks, so please keep an eye on your inbox if you would like to participate.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this post! We really appreciate your patience and support. We’re working very hard so you can have the best possible experience once you get your SadaPay account. Please bear with us and feel free to message us if you have any questions via FB or email hello@sadapay.pk [we’re listening!]
