FBR and LUMS Collaborate on AI-Powered Customs Solutions

FBR and the Technology for People Initiative (TPI) of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the use of machine learning and data analytics in customs operations.

The partnership aims to enhance the efficiency of the Customs Risk Management System, reduce human intervention, and improve regulatory compliance. By leveraging AI technologies, the FBR hopes to minimize mis-invoicing and increase revenue generation.

The collaboration will also extend to the design of the National Targeting Centre (NTC), an ICT-based platform used for information sharing and targeting by customs and other agencies. TPI-LUMS will provide its expertise in machine learning and data analytics to develop customized solutions for the NTC.

The Chairman of the FBR emphasized the importance of collaboration between public sector organizations and academia. TPI-LUMS is committed to bridging the gap between research and policymaking, providing open access to data and research to improve transparency and accountability.

This partnership marks a significant step forward in leveraging technology to modernize customs operations in Pakistan. By harnessing the power of AI, the FBR aims to improve efficiency, reduce corruption, and facilitate cross-border trade.
