United Bank Limited (UBL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Abhi Pvt Ltd to support digital financial settlement activities, with the bank serving as the settlement entity for the fintech company. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at Abhi’s head office in Karachi. The agreement brings together UBL’s banking infrastructure and Abhi’s digital financial services capabilities, with the arrangement focused on enabling efficient settlement solutions as financial transactions increasingly move through digital channels.
Under the partnership, UBL will act as the settlement entity for Abhi, supporting the financial settlement requirements associated with the fintech’s operations. While the companies have not disclosed specific transaction volumes, financial terms or implementation timelines, the agreement establishes a formal banking relationship for settlement activities. The role of a settlement entity is important within digital financial services because fintech platforms require access to regulated banking infrastructure to facilitate the movement and settlement of funds connected with their services. Through the arrangement, Abhi will work with UBL for settlement-related activities while continuing to operate its digital financial services platform. The collaboration also reflects the increasing interaction between established banks and fintech companies in Pakistan’s financial sector. Banks provide regulated infrastructure and settlement capabilities, while fintech companies develop technology-led services and digital customer experiences. Partnerships between the two sides can allow digital financial platforms to connect with established banking systems without requiring every fintech service to independently maintain the same banking infrastructure.
In this case, the MOU specifically establishes UBL’s role as Abhi’s settlement entity, although the announcement does not provide details about any additional products or services that may be introduced through the partnership. For UBL, the agreement forms part of its broader focus on digital transformation, innovation and strategic partnerships within the financial ecosystem. The bank said the collaboration is intended to contribute to a more connected and efficient financial landscape in Pakistan. Its engagement with Abhi also demonstrates how banks can participate in the development of digital financial services by providing infrastructure and settlement support to technology-focused financial companies. The partnership does not, however, indicate any change to Abhi’s existing product portfolio or disclose plans for a new jointly branded financial service.
Abhi has developed its operations around digital financial services, making banking and settlement connectivity an important component of its wider ecosystem. The partnership with UBL provides a formal arrangement through which settlement activities can be supported by an established banking institution. For Pakistan’s fintech sector, such relationships can play a role in connecting digital platforms with the country’s existing financial infrastructure. UBL and Abhi have not disclosed further operational details about the agreement, including the expected launch of any new capabilities, transaction targets or future phases of the collaboration.
