The Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority will take part in a high-level discussion during UNGA High-Level Week in New York on September 21, convened by the United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies in collaboration with Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. The session, titled Blockchain and the Tokenized Future: Sovereign Choices and Safeguards for Next-Gen DPI, is being described as a first-of-its-kind discussion bringing together government and global industry leaders on how countries should approach blockchain-based digital public infrastructure.
Pakistan’s Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, will deliver the opening remarks at the session, positioning Pakistan’s finance ministry directly alongside the UN body convening the discussion. Bilal Bin Saqib, Minister of State and Chairman of PVARA, will join the high-level panel that follows, putting Pakistan’s virtual asset regulator in direct conversation with other government officials and industry leaders on a global stage during one of the UN’s most closely watched diplomatic weeks.
According to PVARA, the discussion is intended to move beyond cryptocurrency specifically and into how blockchain and tokenisation apply to payments, remittances, securities, commodities, capital formation, and the broader infrastructure through which value moves between institutions and countries. Framing the session around sovereign choices and safeguards suggests the panel will address not just the technical potential of tokenised infrastructure but also the policy trade-offs governments face in deciding how much of their financial systems to build on blockchain-based rails, and what protections need to be in place as they do so.
The session forms part of a broader pattern of PVARA and Pakistani officials using international platforms this year to position the country as an early and active participant in global conversations on digital asset regulation, following previous appearances by Saqib addressing forums on similar themes. No specific outcomes or commitments were detailed ahead of the session, and further information on the discussion is available through the link shared by PVARA, with the panel itself set to take place on September 21 in New York.
