The landscape of financial technology and aviation in Pakistan is celebrating a major milestone following a strategic partnership between the nation’s leading digital banking institution and the aviation regulator. In an effort to modernise physical commerce infrastructure, easypaisa has joined hands with the Pakistan Airports Authority and the State Bank of Pakistan to completely digitise various consumer payment touchpoints at Islamabad International Airport. This collaborative initiative marks a substantial leap toward making the country’s central air hub a fully cashless, future-ready travel ecosystem. By introducing electronic payment rails at major locations, the project directly supports national financial integration objectives.
The launch event was formally celebrated at the Islamabad International Airport during a special ceremony. The gathering featured high-level representation from across the corporate and public spectrum, with Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority, attending as the Chief Guest. Leadership executives from easypaisa, including Chief Digital Officer Farhan Hassan and Chief Business Officer Shahzad Khan, were present alongside numerous dignitaries, administrative stakeholders, and airport management officials. The high-profile assembly emphasized the collective national priority placed on converting prominent transit points into digital hubs.
Under this comprehensive modernisation drive, the digital banking operator has successfully deployed quick response codes across key consumer transaction zones. These installations allow the millions of international and domestic passengers who pass through the capital city’s airport annually to complete purchases using seamless mobile wallet and scanning applications. By replacing traditional cash transactions with digital alternatives, the initiative significantly minimises friction during the travel experience, reduces queues at commercial stalls, and establishes a secure environment for everyday retail activities.
Public sector leaders noted that the participation of private financial enterprises is essential for building a robust digital economy. Speaking on the integration, Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed expressed appreciation for the private sector’s dedication to shifting the economy toward a cashless layout aligned with central governance strategies. He noted that transforming the primary gateway to the nation’s capital into a digital first location will greatly assist broader inclusion goals. The leadership remarked that the deployment does not simply represent a new payment method but establishes an important foundation for the digital future of the country.
The private sector collaborators also highlighted how targeted infrastructure changes help achieve macro objectives set by central regulators. Executive leadership from the digital financial service noted that deploying scanning tech across vital airport nodes is a major move toward the national cashless agenda, which remains directly synchronised with the vision of the central bank. The management reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to creating highly secure, accessible, and continuous financial platforms that serve citizens throughout their routine journeys and regional travel.
This technical deployment is part of a much larger, sustained cooperative framework with federal entities and the State Bank of Pakistan under the official Cashless Pakistan framework. The initiative seeks to expand mobile payment footprints nationwide by lowering onboarding requirements for micro merchants, boosting consumer awareness, and enhancing value propositions for businesses. As the first digital bank to scale operations commercially with over sixty million registered accounts, the entity continues to prioritize inclusive economic expansion by providing advanced financial solutions to underbanked demographics across the region.
