JazzCash is expanding access to financial assistance under the Punjab government’s “Maryam Ko Batayn” programme by facilitating digital disbursements to eligible beneficiaries across the province. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) and the Government of Punjab, with JazzCash providing the digital financial infrastructure required to transfer assistance directly to verified recipients. Under the programme, eligible individuals receive PKR 10,000 in financial assistance after their applications are submitted and verified through the designated government process. JazzCash has reported that it has already disbursed assistance to more than 35,000 beneficiaries under the programme, with the initiative reaching households across Punjab. The digital disbursement model allows government assistance to move through a regulated financial channel rather than relying solely on conventional cash-based distribution mechanisms, supporting a more direct process for transferring funds to eligible citizens.
The “Maryam Ko Batayn” programme is designed to provide financial support to vulnerable households and individuals requiring assistance. Citizens can submit requests through the designated government helpline or mobile application, after which applications are subject to verification by the relevant authorities. Once a case has been approved, JazzCash facilitates the transfer of funds to the beneficiary. According to JazzCash, its digital infrastructure enables verified payments to be transferred within the government-mandated 24-hour turnaround time. This process connects government-led social protection with digital payments infrastructure, allowing financial assistance to be distributed electronically. The use of a digital channel can also provide beneficiaries with a more structured method of receiving government assistance while enabling programme stakeholders to maintain records of disbursements and track the delivery of funds.
The partnership between JazzCash, PSPA, and the Punjab government highlights the growing use of digital payments infrastructure in public-sector disbursement programmes. Government welfare initiatives require mechanisms through which approved beneficiaries can receive funds securely and efficiently, particularly when programmes cover large populations across different districts. Digital financial services can provide an alternative to manual distribution by enabling approved payments to be processed electronically and transferred through established financial channels. JazzCash has described its role as that of a digital financial infrastructure partner supporting large-scale public disbursement programmes. The company says its participation is intended to help ensure that financial assistance reaches citizens securely and transparently while reducing friction in the distribution process. The programme also demonstrates how mobile financial services can be integrated into government-led social protection initiatives.
The development adds to JazzCash’s involvement in digital public payments and reflects the wider adoption of electronic disbursement channels in Pakistan. The company has previously participated in government welfare initiatives where digital payments were used to transfer assistance to beneficiaries. In the Maryam Ko Batayn programme, the combination of digital application and verification processes with electronic fund transfers creates a connected mechanism covering the movement of assistance from government approval to beneficiary payment. For eligible citizens, this provides a digital route through which financial support can be received following verification. For government agencies, digital disbursement can support greater visibility over payment activity and help establish a traceable process for distributing public funds. JazzCash’s role in the programme therefore demonstrates how payment infrastructure can support social protection programmes while expanding the use of digital financial services for government-to-citizen payments.
