Bank Alfalah Launches Alfa Buy Now, Pay Later Service in Pakistan

Pakistan is currently grappling with skyrocketing inflation, causing a significant decline in purchasing power for individuals and households. Businesses are feeling the squeeze, consumers are tightening their belts, and economic growth is being hindered. To navigate these difficult times and foster sustainable economic recovery, the banking sector is stepping up to introduce products and services that simplify and improve people’s lives.

Bank Alfalah has recently launched the Alfa Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) service, providing financial flexibility and empowering consumers to make informed purchasing decisions during these turbulent economic times. This service allows credit card holders nationwide to buy items today and pay for them later in up to 10-month installments through Alfamall, Bank Alfalah’s e-commerce marketplace accessible via the website and their banking app.

The Alfa BNPL service offers several key benefits. The service allows for a flexible payment schedule, with monthly installments deducted on their due dates, while keeping the user’s credit card limit intact. Alfa BNPL transforms the shopping experience by allowing consumers to make significant purchases without reaching their credit limit. For example, a smartphone costing PKR 300,000 can be acquired with an initial payment of PKR 30,000, and the remaining amount can be paid in installments without additional markup fees.

Credit card holders can browse and purchase products from various categories, including home appliances, electronics, smartphones, and lifestyle items. The service is accessible via the Alfamall website and select Bank Alfalah branches in Karachi. The BNPL facility benefits merchants by driving substantial increases in sales and ensuring prompt remuneration. Customers enjoy the flexibility of easy installments, fostering stronger relationships and mutual satisfaction. The service is user-friendly, requiring no paperwork and eliminating waiting periods, thereby speeding up transactions and enhancing the overall banking experience.

Muhammad Yahya Khan, Chief Digital Banking Officer at Bank Alfalah, highlighted the transformative impact of the BNPL service, stating,

“Alfa Buy Now, Pay Later is reshaping the digital banking landscape by offering consumers the freedom to shop now and pay later in installments. This solution extends to all credit card holders nationwide, regardless of their bank affiliation.”

The introduction of BNPL in Pakistan signifies a shift towards digital payments, fostering greater convenience and accessibility for consumers. Despite the limited credit card user base in the country, BNPL has the potential to attract more individuals into the digital transactions ecosystem, thereby driving economic growth, consumer spending, and financial inclusivity.
