TiE Lahore Chapter conducts workshop on FinTech, motivates entrepreneurs to embrace technology

Focusing on networking and linking together the professionals, students, and entrepreneurs from the FinTech domain, the TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Lahore Chapter conducted a full house half-day event.

Titled as “Fintech — The Future of FinTech in Pakistan”, the event was conducted at Royal Palm Lahore a couple of days ago. The event focused on the new cutting-edge developments that are happening in the FinTech domain very occasionally nowadays. Intelligent heads from diverse fields and backgrounds converged at the event to ponder over implications of developments specifically in the financial sector of Pakistan.

The event was attended by many notable personalities from the startup community. Faisal Sherjan, serial entrepreneur, was the moderator of the ceremony. The workshop hosted a panel which featured startups from the FinTech domain. The featured startups included teams from KarloCompare.com.pk (Sumair Farooqi & Ali Ladu bhai), Oneload (Muhammad Yar Hiraj), Finja (Qasif Shahid) and Urdubit (Danyal Manzar & Zain Tariq). Mr. Humayun Mazhar, President TiE Lahore Chapter, was also present at the event.

Dr Miftah Ismail, a professional Economist and Chairman Board of Investment, was the first speaker of the event. Dr. Miftah has worked at IMF before coming back to Pakistan. Previously, he has worked with the leading names in the country i.e. BOI, SNGPL, PIA, Ismail Industries Ltd, Candyland Confectionery and Astro plastics Pvt. Limited. He shared his extensive knowledge with the audience and discussed how government is playing its role in FinTech ecosystem.

Hasnain Sheikh, CEO at Innov8 Limited, was the second speaker for the workshop. He established Innov8 Limited with a key focus on providing technology, consulting, and cloud based services in the mobile financial services/commerce space of South Asia and MENA region. Hasnain Sheikh shared his decade-long experience from the technology and consulting domain with the audience.

This half-day program took a deep dive into technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of FinTech that enlightened the audience and helped them understand this new space. The financial domain remains largely unnourished in Pakistan.Incorporation of new technology innovations can be a stepping stone for a greater level of individual and collective productivity, especially on national level.
