Paysys Labs Launches Mojaloop Instant Payment Switch Demonstration Featuring Tazama Real-Time Fraud Monitoring

Paysys Labs has launched a live demonstration of a Mojaloop Inclusive Instant Payment System (IIPS), allowing users to explore how interoperable payment infrastructure connects financial institutions and routes transactions between participating providers. Announced in collaboration with Tazama, the demonstration lets users follow a payment journey from a mobile banking application through a central payment hub to participating banks and payment channels. It also provides access to different payment use cases and system portals, alongside an illustration of real-time fraud monitoring. The initiative gives financial institutions, fintech companies and other stakeholders an opportunity to examine the components of an instant payment ecosystem in a practical environment. Rather than introducing a new consumer-facing wallet or standalone banking application, the demonstration focuses on the infrastructure that enables different payment providers to communicate and exchange transactions. Paysys Labs has shared a dedicated link for users to explore the system, although the announcement does not specify whether the environment is connected to live production networks or handles real customer funds.

Mojaloop is an open-source software platform designed to help operators build inclusive instant payment systems that connect digital financial service providers through common interfaces and a central hub. In a fragmented payments market, banks, mobile money operators and other providers may operate separate systems, making transfers between networks more complicated or costly to support. Mojaloop provides a framework through which participating institutions can exchange payment instructions without requiring every provider to establish an individual integration with every other participant. Its architecture includes services for identifying the destination provider, routing payment requests and supporting the clearing and settlement processes associated with transfers. Operators can also configure participation requirements, transaction limits and scheme rules according to their system’s needs. The platform is intended to support financial inclusion by making it easier to connect different financial service providers, including those serving customers who have limited access to conventional banking. Actual transaction speed, fees, settlement arrangements and available payment services depend on how an individual deployment is configured and operated.

A key feature highlighted in the demonstration is Tazama, an open-source transaction-monitoring platform designed to identify potentially fraudulent activity and money-laundering patterns in payment ecosystems. Tazama receives transaction information through its monitoring interfaces and evaluates activity using configurable rules, participant behaviour and historical transaction data. Its processing components combine individual rule results into broader patterns, known as typologies, which can indicate suspicious activity. Depending on the implementation and configured controls, the system can generate alerts for investigation or support decisions to block transactions considered high risk. This monitoring layer is important for instant payments because funds may move rapidly between accounts, reducing the time available for financial institutions to identify and respond to suspicious transfers. Tazama also offers capabilities for alert handling, investigation workflows and analytics, helping monitoring teams review activity and assess the performance of their detection rules. Its effectiveness depends on the quality of transaction data, the configuration of detection rules and the operational processes used by the institution deploying it; the announcement does not provide measured fraud-detection results for the new demonstration.

The launch builds on the strategic partnership announced by Paysys Labs and Tazama in August 2025, which focused on combining transaction-monitoring technology with payment infrastructure expertise to support safer digital financial services. Paysys Labs is also listed in the Mojaloop Foundation’s service-provider directory, where it is described as a provider of implementation and related services for interoperable payment systems. The live demonstration brings these areas of work together by illustrating payment routing alongside fraud-monitoring capabilities in one environment. For prospective adopters, such a demonstration can help explain how payment hubs, participant connections and monitoring services fit into a broader architecture before a deployment is planned. However, implementing a national instant payment system requires more than installing software. Operators must establish governance arrangements, participation rules, settlement mechanisms, security controls, regulatory compliance and operational support. Paysys Labs has invited users to explore the demonstration here. The company has not announced a new country-specific rollout, deployment schedule, pricing structure or production transaction volumes as part of this launch. The demonstration should therefore be understood as a practical view of interoperable payment technology and fraud monitoring, rather than confirmation that a new national payment switch has entered production.
