United Bank Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Euronet, appointing the payments technology company as its POS acquiring processor to accelerate the growth of its merchant acquiring business. The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at UBL’s head office, attended by Sohail Aziz, Chief Information and Digital Officer at UBL, Kashif Gaya, CEO of Euronet Pakistan, Syed Iftikhar Ul Haq, Group Executive for Consumer Finance at UBL, and senior executives from both organizations.
Through the partnership, Euronet’s processing technology will support UBL’s merchant acquiring operations across onboarding, transaction processing, settlement, and servicing, functions that sit behind every card and digital payment a merchant accepts through the bank’s network. Bringing in a specialized processor is intended to make merchant onboarding faster, improve service levels for existing merchants, and widen the range of acceptance capabilities UBL can offer businesses, while also giving the bank more flexibility to add newer payment technologies and acceptance channels as they become available in the market.
Sohail Aziz said UBL remains focused on investing in modern technology platforms that improve customer experience and operational efficiency while supporting the growth of its merchant acquiring business, adding that the Euronet partnership expands the bank’s ability to offer secure and scalable payment solutions to businesses across the country. Kashif Gaya said Euronet was pleased to partner with UBL at an important point in its growth, describing the bank as one of Pakistan’s fastest-growing institutions with ambitious plans for its POS acquiring business, and said Euronet’s scale and payments expertise position it to support those goals as part of what he called a long-term strategic partnership.
No specific figures were shared on the number of merchants expected to be onboarded through the partnership, the financial terms of the agreement, or a timeline for rolling out new acceptance channels enabled by Euronet’s technology. Both companies described the agreement as a milestone in UBL’s digital payments strategy, with further developments expected as the bank works to expand merchant acceptance and grow its presence in Pakistan’s evolving digital payments landscape.
