MAJU and PSX Sign MoU to Promote Financial Literacy and Capital Market Education

Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), establishing a collaboration aimed at expanding financial literacy, capital market education, research, and professional exposure for students and faculty. The partnership brings an academic institution and Pakistan’s primary stock exchange together with the objective of creating stronger links between classroom learning and the financial sector. Through the collaboration, MAJU students will have opportunities to gain greater exposure to financial markets and develop an understanding of how the capital market operates in practice. The partnership is also expected to provide faculty members with opportunities for greater interaction with industry stakeholders, supporting the exchange of knowledge between academia and the financial sector. By establishing a formal relationship with PSX, the university can provide students with access to industry-oriented learning opportunities that complement their existing academic programs and introduce them to areas of the financial sector that may not be fully covered through conventional classroom education.

Financial literacy and capital market education form a central part of the collaboration. Greater financial awareness can help students understand financial instruments, market structures, investment concepts, and the role of capital markets within the wider economy. For university students preparing to enter professional careers, exposure to these concepts can provide useful knowledge about the financial sector and its different career pathways. The collaboration between MAJU and PSX is intended to create avenues through which students can connect theoretical knowledge with practical perspectives from the industry. This type of engagement can also contribute to developing a better understanding of financial decision-making and the role of regulated capital markets. For PSX, engagement with universities provides an opportunity to increase awareness of capital markets among younger audiences and introduce students to the functioning of Pakistan’s securities market at an earlier stage of their academic and professional development.

Beyond financial literacy, the MoU includes opportunities for industry engagement and research. Collaboration between universities and financial-sector institutions can support knowledge exchange by bringing academic perspectives and industry experience together. MAJU faculty and students may gain opportunities to engage with professionals and developments within the capital market, while research collaboration can provide a platform for examining financial-sector issues and market-related subjects. Such engagement can help universities maintain stronger connections with developments taking place outside academic settings. It can also give students a clearer understanding of how financial-sector concepts are applied in professional environments. Research-oriented collaboration can further support the development of academic work focused on capital markets, financial literacy, and related areas, while industry interaction can expose faculty and students to practical considerations that can complement theoretical study.

The MAJU-PSX partnership reflects the growing importance of academic-industry collaboration in developing financial knowledge and professional awareness among university students. By combining financial literacy initiatives, capital market education, research, and industry engagement, the MoU creates a framework for continued interaction between the university and Pakistan’s capital market institution. For students, the collaboration can provide additional avenues to learn about financial markets and gain professional exposure, while faculty members can benefit from closer engagement with industry practices and developments. The partnership also places financial education within a broader academic context, where students can explore the relationship between financial markets, businesses, and the wider economy. As financial knowledge becomes increasingly relevant across professional fields, collaborations such as this can provide universities with additional channels to expose students to the financial ecosystem and help bridge the gap between academic education and practical industry knowledge.
