In a significant push to digitize consumer transactions at retail fuel outlets across the country, JazzCash has formally partnered with Wafi Energy Pakistan to introduce instant, QR-based digital payments at Shell service stations. This strategic deployment leverages the state-backed Raast payment system, enabling customers to execute fuel payments in a matter of seconds using any Raast-enabled bank application or mobile wallet. By replacing cash transactions with highly secure digital alternatives, the nationwide integration targets over 450 Shell service stations to establish a more streamlined, secure, and convenient experience for motorists on the go.
The partnership was officially launched during a special ceremony at Wafi Energy Pakistan’s upgraded, company-operated Shell service station in Lahore. Designed to serve as a modern consumer hub, the upgraded Lahore facility features a dedicated Shell Select retail store, premium washrooms, electric vehicle charging capabilities, quick oil change services, and various partner-led convenience amenities. Highlighting the practicality and speed of the newly integrated platform, Wafi Energy Pakistan’s Chief Executive Officer, Zubair Shaikh, demonstrated the system firsthand by using the JazzCash Raast QR code to pay for fuel at the pump during the launch event. He emphasized that the introduction of digital transaction solutions is a welcome change for modern customers who demand speed and efficiency during their daily transits.
Representing JazzCash at the launch event, Arif Mahmood Chaudhary, Head of Public Sector Partnerships, expressed the digital wallet’s deep commitment to expanding digital payment acceptance across critical, high-frequency consumer touchpoints. He pointed out that integrating instant QR payment capabilities at fuel stations nationwide represents a vital step toward accelerating financial inclusion and reducing the cash footprint in Pakistan’s retail sector. By enabling motorists to securely pay for their fuel directly from their mobile devices, both organizations are actively contributing to the central bank’s overarching vision of transitioning Pakistan to a highly documented and cashless economy.
Looking ahead, the collaboration between JazzCash and Wafi Energy Pakistan is expected to yield further digital consumer products aimed at enhancing customer retention and service utility. The two organizations plan to capitalize on the initial rollout of the QR payment system to explore additional, co-branded digital use cases and automated retail loyalty rewards across the extensive Shell fuel station network. This proactive alignment reflects a strong, shared focus on utilizing technical innovation to build practical, customer-centric payment systems that meet the changing habits of modern consumers within Pakistan’s rapidly evolving retail and urban mobility landscapes.
