Umair Aijaz Takes Charge as CEO of Raqami Digital Islamic Bank

Experienced investment banker Umair Aijaz assumes the role of CEO at Raqami Digital Islamic Bank, succeeding former CEO Sardar Abubakr. Aijaz, formerly the SEVP and Group Head CIBG at Pakistan Kuwait Investment Company Pvt. Ltd. (PKIC), brings a wealth of expertise to his new position.

During his tenure at PKIC, Aijaz played a pivotal role in the organization’s growth, with a focus on investment opportunities in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, deal structuring, equity valuations, and Shariah-compliant transactions. His proficiency in syndicate financing and corporate and project financing significantly contributed to the expansion of Islamic finance in Pakistan.

As a founding team member of Raqami Digital Islamic Bank, Aijaz’s leadership is expected to shape the bank’s trajectory as a potential game-changer in Pakistan’s banking landscape. Aijaz has demonstrated commitment to technological innovation by spearheading initiatives such as investing in tech startups through PlanetN.

With a diverse professional background, including executive roles at BMA Capital Management and AKD Securities Ltd., Aijaz has also served in positions at Allied Bank Limited and A.F. Ferguson & Co. (PwC Pakistan). His qualifications include ACCA, CFA Institute, and ICAEW, underscoring his comprehensive skill set in the financial sector.
