Roshan Digital Accounts (RDA) attracted $251 million in inflows during September 2026, taking cumulative receipts through the initiative to $14.157 billion, according to data reported by Mettis Global on October 9. The latest figures show that monthly inflows declined by $8 million from the $259 million recorded in August. Despite the month-on-month decrease, cumulative receipts continued to rise, reflecting the role of the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) initiative in connecting overseas Pakistanis with the country’s banking and investment system. The programme enables eligible non-resident Pakistanis to open and operate bank accounts remotely and access a range of financial services without visiting Pakistan.
The September figures also show continued activity in the use of funds received through the accounts. During the month, $16 million was repatriated abroad, while $170 million was utilised locally, bringing combined repatriation and domestic utilisation to $188 million. As a result, the net repatriable liability increased by $63 million during September to reach $3.073 billion. This measure represents funds and investments remaining within the RDA system that may be repatriated, subject to the applicable rules and conditions. The distinction between cumulative inflows, domestic utilisation, repatriation and outstanding liabilities provides a clearer picture of how overseas Pakistanis are using the programme beyond the headline monthly receipts.
Investment through Naya Pakistan Certificates (NPCs) continued to account for a substantial portion of the outstanding RDA position. According to the reported breakdown, $740 million remained invested in conventional Naya Pakistan Certificates, while $1.375 billion was held in Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates. Equity investments stood at $153 million, account balances totalled $725 million, and other liabilities amounted to $80 million. These figures highlight the range of investment options available through the initiative, including conventional and Shariah-compliant instruments. For overseas Pakistanis, the programme provides channels to maintain banking relationships with Pakistan and invest in eligible domestic financial products. The relative distribution of funds across these options also offers insight into the different ways account holders retain or deploy their money within the system.
The latest data further indicates that RDA inflows during the current financial year reached $792 million, compared with $545 million in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Combined repatriation and local utilisation during the same period amounted to $556 million, up from $423 million a year earlier. September also saw the opening of 9,458 new accounts, taking the total number of accounts to 975,602. The highest monthly inflow recorded in 2026 so far was $321 million in April. These figures point to continued participation in the programme, although monthly movements show that inflows can fluctuate. The initiative’s future performance will depend on overseas Pakistanis’ confidence, investment opportunities, financial conditions and the attractiveness of available products. Sustained account growth and the effective use of funds will remain important indicators of the programme’s contribution to Pakistan’s formal financial system.
