Punjab Integrates Excise and EPA Payments Into Unified One App Digital System

The Punjab government has officially announced a major shift in its digital governance strategy by integrating the Excise Department and the Environmental Protection Agency dues into a centralized digital ecosystem managed by the traffic police. This new initiative allows for the collection of token taxes and EPA challans through the One App platform, a move specifically designed to enhance transparency and provide a seamless experience for citizens across the province. By consolidating multiple departmental requirements into a single digital interface, the government aims to eliminate the traditional hurdles associated with physical visits to various offices and the use of disparate payment portals.

According to senior provincial officials, the One App platform is now a comprehensive solution that enables users to settle traffic fines, pay annual vehicle token taxes, and clear other government dues through one unified system. This service is set for a phased implementation across all districts of Punjab starting next week, representing a significant step forward in the digital transformation of the public sector. DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir confirmed that the application successfully integrates real-time data from nine different government departments. This high level of integration allows citizens to instantly check all their pending dues by simply entering their vehicle registration number or by uploading a clear photograph of their vehicle number plate for automated detection.

The expansion of the app follows a successful two-month trial period during which the system was used exclusively for processing digital traffic challans. The success of this pilot phase provided the necessary framework to scale the application into a more robust tool for broader government revenue collection. Under this newly expanded system, payments are processed through the standardized PSID mechanism. This ensures that funds are transferred directly into the specific accounts of the respective departments, such as the Excise Department or the EPA, which facilitates faster processing times and ensures a higher degree of financial transparency compared to manual methods.

Government authorities have emphasized that the current rollout is only the initial stage of a larger digital roadmap. Plans are already in place to connect additional government departments to the One App platform in the coming months. The ultimate goal is to create a singular digital portal where citizens can access every piece of information and every payment requirement related to their vehicles in one place. By leveraging technology to bridge the gap between different regulatory bodies, the Punjab government is setting a new standard for how technology can be used to simplify the relationship between the state and its residents.

The shift toward a unified digital payment structure reflects a growing trend in the region to adopt fintech solutions for improved public service delivery. The use of image recognition and direct account transfers not only speeds up the collection process but also significantly reduces the chances of errors or corruption. As the system goes live across the province next week, it is expected to drastically reduce the time citizens spend managing their official obligations. This initiative marks a turning point for the provincial administration as it continues to prioritize ease of doing business and digital accessibility for the general public through the effective use of modern technology.
