Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited (PMEX) and digital wealth management platform Mahaana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of Pakistan’s regulated gold market. Under the collaboration, Mahaana’s newly launched gold fund intends to source gold through PMEX, while both organizations will work together on marketing and investor awareness initiatives. The partnership aims to improve public understanding of regulated commodity markets and explain the role of formal exchanges in gold-related investment activity. The announcement was shared by PMEX through its official LinkedIn platform, where the exchange stated that the collaboration would focus on building awareness, trust and participation in Pakistan’s formal commodities market. PMEX operates as a regulated commodity futures exchange under the oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), offering market access for commodities including gold, silver, energy products, agricultural commodities and financial instruments.
Mahaana’s participation in the arrangement comes through its recently launched gold investment product. The company operates as a licensed asset management company and investment adviser, regulated by the SECP. Its gold offering is designed to provide investors with access to gold through a formal investment structure rather than requiring them to directly purchase, store or manage physical gold. The company has promoted its gold product as a digital investment option, with investment access available through its platform. The intended sourcing of gold through PMEX would connect the fund with an established and regulated commodities marketplace. Similar gold-oriented investment products in Pakistan have used deliverable gold-based contracts available through PMEX as part of their investment strategy, illustrating how the exchange can support formal investment exposure to the precious metal.
The MoU also places emphasis on marketing and awareness activities aimed at helping investors understand the functioning of a transparent and regulated marketplace. For many retail investors, gold is traditionally associated with physical purchases, jewellery, savings and protection against currency or inflation-related pressures. A regulated gold fund introduces another structure through which individuals may gain exposure to the asset, although investment returns remain subject to market movements, fund expenses and other applicable risks. Investor education can therefore play an important role in explaining how commodity exchanges, asset management companies, gold funds and digital investment platforms operate. PMEX has separately advised investors to conduct commodity futures transactions through registered brokers and to verify the regulatory status of intermediaries before opening trading accounts. The exchange also highlights the importance of transparent transactions and compliance within the regulated futures market.
The collaboration between PMEX and Mahaana reflects continuing activity around the formalization and digitization of investment opportunities in Pakistan’s financial and commodities markets. By linking a digital wealth platform with a regulated commodity exchange, the partnership may provide a framework for further investor education and wider awareness of gold-related investment products. However, the precise operational details of the arrangement, including the fund’s sourcing process, investment allocation, custody arrangements, fees and risk disclosures, would depend on the applicable fund documents and regulatory requirements. The two organizations are expected to coordinate on initiatives that explain the benefits and mechanics of participating in formal commodities markets. Their stated objective is to encourage informed participation in Pakistan’s regulated gold market while improving public understanding of the systems supporting gold-based investment products.
