Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transitioning Pakistan into a cashless economy. Speaking on Thursday at a high-level Committee on the Promotion of Cashless Economy, the minister emphasized the importance of reducing reliance on physical currency and promoting digital transactions.
Shaza Fatima highlighted the government’s efforts, particularly through initiatives like the State Bank of Pakistan’s RAAST instant payment system, which aims to make digital payments more accessible across the country. She noted that digital payments play a crucial role in driving economic growth and efficiency, and stressed the need for accelerating digital financial inclusion to boost the nation’s economic development.
In her remarks, the minister underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for digital transactions, which she described as essential for Pakistan’s economic progress. She called for coordinated efforts to ensure the widespread adoption of digital payments, positioning Pakistan as a leader in the move towards a cashless society.
