OPay has announced the shortlisted applicants for its National Innovation Challenge in Nigeria, highlighting participation from teams and individuals across different regions of the country. The initiative, presented as the OPay National Innovation Challenge, has attracted a total of 2,293 teams and 11,465 individual applicants. Following the selection process, 48 teams and 240 individuals have been shortlisted for the next stage of the challenge. The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with Google, 3MT and other participating organizations, with the programme focused on identifying and supporting innovative ideas within Nigeria’s technology and digital financial ecosystem.
The shortlisted applicants are distributed across six regions, reflecting participation from different parts of Nigeria. The North West region has four shortlisted teams, while the North East has three teams. The North Central region recorded the highest number of shortlisted teams with 16, followed by the South West with 14 teams. The South East has five shortlisted teams, while the South South region also has five teams. Together, these regional selections account for the 48 teams shortlisted through the national challenge. The geographic distribution highlights participation from a wide range of communities and technology-focused applicants across Nigeria.
The challenge has also shortlisted individual applicants, with a total of 240 individuals selected from the 11,465 people who participated. Alongside the team-based selection, the individual category provides another route for participants to have their ideas considered through the innovation programme. The number of applications indicates significant interest in the initiative, with thousands of teams and individuals taking part before the final shortlist was announced. OPay has congratulated the applicants who have progressed to the next stage of the National Innovation Challenge.
