NRB Bank PLC Partners with UCB Fintech Upay to Expand Digital Financial Services and Micro Savings

NRB Bank PLC has officially signed a strategic partnership agreement with UCB Fintech Company Limited, widely known as Upay, to significantly expand and enhance digital financial services across the country. The collaboration is designed to facilitate seamless fund transfers between institutional banking infrastructure and mobile financial platforms, while also streamlining domestic and international remittance distribution services. Furthermore, the partnership aims to expand both Islamic and conventional micro-savings solutions nationwide, bringing structured financial tools closer to underserved consumer segments.

The formal agreement was executed during a high-profile signing ceremony held at NRB Bank’s Corporate Head Office located in Dhaka. The documents were signed by Mr. Tarek Reaz Khan, Managing Director and CEO of NRB Bank PLC, and Mr. Shyamol B. Das, Managing Director and CEO of Upay. The event was attended by senior executive leadership and management representatives from both organizations, highlighting the strategic importance of cross-sectoral collaboration between traditional commercial banking institutions and innovative financial technology providers.

Under the terms of this newly established alliance, customers gain the ability to execute secure, real-time fund transfers smoothly between NRB Bank accounts and the Upay digital wallet ecosystem. In addition to peer-to-peer and account-to-wallet movements, Upay will function as a vital remittance distribution partner, ensuring that funds sent from abroad can be disbursed efficiently and securely. The partnership also provides critical operational support for the bank’s expanding micro-savings initiatives, enabling users to access both conventional and Shariah-compliant savings products through digital touchpoints.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tarek Reaz Khan emphasized that the collaboration marks a major step forward in strengthening the country’s digital banking landscape. He noted that integrating mobile financial services with conventional banking architecture improves customer convenience, reduces transaction friction, and directly advances national financial inclusion objectives. By combining NRB Bank’s extensive banking network with Upay’s robust digital reach, the partnership creates a unified framework designed to cater to modern consumer demands.

As digital financial adoption continues to accelerate across the region, partnerships between commercial banks and mobile financial service providers are becoming a cornerstone of modern economic strategy. This alliance between NRB Bank PLC and Upay underscores the growing commitment of financial institutions to leverage technology for broader market penetration. By streamlining remittances, micro-savings, and general fund transfers, the collaboration sets a strong benchmark for integrated financial services and digital transformation in the banking sector.
