Dr. Syed Amir Ali, President and Chief Executive Officer of Meezan Bank, has been elected Vice President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) for the 2026–28 term. The election was announced following OICCI’s Extraordinary General Meeting held in September, where Umar Ahsan Khan, CEO and Managing Director of Dawlance, was elected President and Ahmed Zahid Zaheer, Country Chairman and General Manager of Chevron Lubricants Pakistan, was elected Senior Vice President. Dr. Syed Amir Ali will serve alongside the newly elected leadership as the chamber begins its 2026–28 term. Meezan Bank congratulated its President and CEO on the appointment through an official LinkedIn post, noting his new role within OICCI’s Managing Committee. The appointment places the head of one of Pakistan’s major Islamic banking institutions within an industry body that represents overseas investors and engages with businesses, government authorities and other stakeholders on investment and economic issues.
The new OICCI Managing Committee includes senior executives from companies operating across banking, financial services, manufacturing, consumer goods, healthcare and other sectors. Along with Umar Ahsan Khan, Ahmed Zahid Zaheer and Dr. Syed Amir Ali, the committee includes representatives from Engro Corporation, J.P. Morgan Pakistan, GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan, Habib Metropolitan Bank, Coca-Cola Export Corporation, Abbott Laboratories Pakistan and FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan. The chamber has stated that its 2026–28 term will involve greater engagement with government authorities, regulators and international institutions, while continuing work around data-driven research and platforms covering areas such as technology, artificial intelligence, climate, diversity and inclusion. The leadership transition follows Yousaf Hussain’s completion of the previous 2024–26 term as OICCI President. The new committee is therefore beginning its tenure at a time when business organizations and investors continue to engage with policymakers on issues related to investment, exports, productivity, employment and the broader operating environment.
Dr. Syed Amir Ali brings experience from the banking and financial services sector to the OICCI Managing Committee. Meezan Bank’s official organizational information identifies him as President and Chief Executive Officer and notes that his professional experience spans finance, treasury, corporate banking and investment banking. His current position at Meezan Bank also places him at the leadership of an institution focused on Islamic banking and financial services. His participation in the OICCI leadership provides representation from the banking sector within a committee that includes executives from several major domestic and multinational businesses operating in Pakistan. OICCI’s new leadership has indicated that the chamber will continue engaging with government, regulators and international institutions during the 2026–28 term. The committee will also continue its research and policy-related activities across areas affecting the business and investment community. These activities provide a platform for representatives from different sectors to contribute perspectives on the economic and regulatory environment.
OICCI’s new President Umar Ahsan Khan has said the chamber’s advocacy during the new term will remain evidence-based and focused on practical policy proposals. He also highlighted the importance of investment, exports, productivity and employment in translating economic stability into broader economic activity. The chamber has also identified continued engagement with policymakers, regulators and international institutions as part of its agenda for 2026–28. Dr. Syed Amir Ali’s appointment as Vice President places him within this leadership structure and adds a banking-sector perspective to OICCI’s work with the wider business community. For Meezan Bank, the appointment also provides an avenue for its senior leadership to participate in discussions involving businesses, investors and policymakers. The bank said it wished Dr. Syed Amir Ali success in contributing to OICCI’s mandate and to Pakistan’s business and investment environment. His two-year term as Vice President will run alongside the newly constituted OICCI Managing Committee for 2026–28.
