ICMA Pakistan and HBL Sign MoU for Careers, Internships and Islamic Banking Benefits

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA Pakistan) and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) have formalized a strategic partnership through a memorandum of understanding signed at HBL’s head office in Karachi. The agreement was signed on September 24, 2026, by Aamir Ijaz Khan, FCMA, CMP, Executive Director at ICMA, and Majid Aziz, Head of Phygital at HBL. Senior representatives from both organizations attended the signing ceremony, including Rauf Ali Jan, FCMA, Chief Internal Auditor at HBL, Shams Bhimani, Head of the Job Placements & Industrial Linkages Department at ICMA, and Muhammad Adnan Showkat, Deputy Director Finance at ICMA. The partnership is focused on connecting ICMA’s students and members with opportunities within the banking sector, particularly through employment, internships, career development and professional growth initiatives. ICMA’s official information also highlights employment and placement services as part of its professional education ecosystem, while its membership benefits include professional development and networking opportunities across different sectors.

Under the MoU, ICMA students and members are expected to gain greater exposure to HBL and opportunities for professional engagement with the bank. Industry-academia linkages are becoming an important mechanism for connecting professional education with workplace requirements, particularly in sectors such as banking and financial services where accounting, finance, risk management and digital banking skills are relevant to a wide range of roles. The agreement is intended to create avenues for employment and internships while also supporting career development and professional growth. Such partnerships can provide students with opportunities to understand banking operations and gain practical exposure alongside their academic and professional training. ICMA has previously facilitated internship opportunities for its students with banks, including Faysal Bank and Askari Bank, demonstrating an existing focus on connecting its students with financial-sector institutions.

A further component of the collaboration is the extension of exclusive Islamic banking benefits by HBL to ICMA members, employees and students. ICMA has separately highlighted an HBL Islamic Banking offer covering selected consumer financing products, including house, car and personal finance. The benefits announced by ICMA include preferential pricing, waived processing fees, reduced early settlement and prepayment charges, and flexible financing limits and tenures. These benefits add a customer-facing element to the broader institutional partnership between the two organizations. HBL maintains dedicated Islamic banking products and services, including separate Islamic banking schedules and consumer finance offerings. The collaboration therefore combines professional and career-related opportunities with access to selected banking facilities for the ICMA community.

The partnership comes as professional institutions and financial-sector organizations continue to build closer links between education, employment and industry requirements. For ICMA Pakistan, collaboration with a major banking institution provides another channel through which students and members can engage with the financial-services sector, while HBL can connect with a pool of accounting and management professionals through the institute’s student and member network. The agreement also extends beyond recruitment by covering internships, career development and professional growth, potentially giving participants multiple points of engagement with the banking industry. ICMA’s existing professional-development framework includes continuing professional development, technical updates, networking and employment-related opportunities, while its education platform highlights internship and placement services. The HBL partnership adds another institutional relationship to that ecosystem and gives ICMA students and members access to opportunities and selected Islamic banking benefits through the bank.
